Laura Robson details why Novak Djokovic racket destroying at Wimbledon was 'nice'

Laura Robson thought it was "nice in a way" to see Novak Djokovic smashing his racket during the Wimbledon final because that moment showed the tennis world that the Serb "was human." After falling down by a break to Carlos Alcaraz in the fifth set of this year's Wimbledon final, Djokovic violently destroyed his racket against the net post.

In the end, that break of serve decided the fifth set as Alcaraz held on to his service for the remainder of the Wimbledon final to win 1-6 7-6 (6) 6-1 3-6 6-4. Now, the time has come for the US Open and Djokovic and Alcaraz are projected to meet in the final.

Reflecting on what happened at Wimbledon, Robson suggests the US Open crowd might have the perception that Alcaraz is the favorite and Djokovic the underdog. If that's indeed the case, Robson thinks it could lead to more people being on Djokovic's side at Flushing Meadows.

"I was watching that final thinking that it showed he was human.

Everyone has this perception of him that he’s the most incredible athlete and the most insane tennis player of all time, which he is, but to let that emotion show was almost nice in a way because we so often see him winning so easily in Slam finals.

To see him really tested and so frustrated with how things were going was nice, because you rarely see it from him. I feel like maybe this year (in New York) the crowds may be on his side a little bit more. The US Open crowds love an underdog and they might feel Alcaraz is the favorite over Djokovic and get behind him.

Djokovic has a lot of fans but for whatever reason some people do not warm to him as much. But I think he has been great for tennis," Robson told Metro.
