Leagues Cup Predictions, Odds for Quarterfinals: Inter Miami vs Charlotte Picks & More

Philadelphia Union vs Queretaro Prediction

Philadelphia’s Leagues Cup resume looks like this. A 3-1 in over Tijuana, 5-1 win over this Queretaro team, 0-0 draw with DC (PK win), and a 1-1 draw with the NYRB (PK win).

Now they get Queretaro again, and again get them at home. At home they’re riding a streak of nine wins straight and 14 undefeated at Subaru Park. Across all competitions, the Union have just one loss in their past 37 home games and haven’t lost at home since the start of 2020.

Queretaro are longshots to win Leagues Cup, but are one of two Liga MX teams left standing. They lost 5-1 to Philadelphia, beat Tijuana 1-0, beat Pumas 1-0 and drew New England last round 1-1 before winning in PKs.

Queretaro don’t score a lot of goals lately, scoring multiple goals only once in their past seven. But, they have scored in 6/7 and in each of the past six. But, they have only 13 shots on target in four games, just 3.25 per game,

Beating New England on the road is impressive, however, New England were without the likes of Carles Gil and Gustavo Bou.

We’ve seen this matchup already, and even a lesser effort from Philly should still be enough for the win as Queretaro haven’t shown they can score more than one goal, despite how good their defesne has been.

The Union should win, however, they could be without Daniel Gazdag who left last game with a knee njury. He had a hat-trick in the 5-1 win vs Queretaro in the group stage.

  • Philadelphia vs Queretaro Picks: Philadelphia to win & score over 1.5 goals (-150)

Inter Miami vs Charlotte FC Prediction

The Messi party rolls on and returns to DRV PNK on Friday. It at first looked like Inter Miami would roll to an easy win with Messi scoring in the 6′ minute versus Dallas in the round of 16. But Miami found themselves down 3-1 and 4-2 late in the game but still managed to fight back and draw 4-4 forcing PKs. Messi had two goals, one assist, and had a free kick that turned into an own goal against Dallas.

Messi has taken Leagues Cup by storm with seven goals and three assists in just four games. He has 17 shots and 11 shots on target.

Miami’s Leagues Cup games have been a 2-1 win (Cruz Azul), 4-0 win (Atlanta), 3-1 win (Orlando) and then 4-4 (PK win versus Dallas). Next up is Charlotte FC. They also have a PK win over Dallas this tournament, drawing 2-2 and winning 4-1 in PKs in their first game.

They then beat Necaxa 4-1, and drew Cruz Azul 0-0 before winning 4-3 in PKs. That set up a round of 16 match with Houston in Texas. Corey Baird scored early in the 10’ minute for Houston and it stayed that way until the final ten minutes. First, Patrick Agyemang equaled for Charlotte in the 80’ minute, before Houston suffered an own goal just one minute later passing the ball back into their own net to give Charlotte the 2-1 lead which they would hold onto for the win.

While Charlotte has been good in Leagues Cup, they still have the worst defense in MLS allowing 40 goals this season. On the road, they’re 3-3-6 and have been outscored 23-15. Coming into Leagues Cup they were winless in eight, and had one win in 11.

They’ll be missing LB Nathan Burn who is suspended on yellow card accumulation, and their CB is from the Super Draft in Andrew Pervette. That’s not a recipe for success on the road versus Messi and friends.

Miami’s defense is not great either, allowing 36 goals, four less than Charlotte and we just saw them concede four. So a both teams to score (-138) bet could be in play.

I like a Miami win and for them to score over 1.5 goals at -163 in this game. For more value if you add Messi to score into this same-game parlay that bumps it up to -125, or adding Messi to have 2+ shots on target will bring you to -105 in the Miami vs Charlotte odds.

  • Inter Miami vs Charlotte FC Picks: Miami to win & score over 1.5 goals, plus Messi over 1.5 shots on target (-105)

Nashville SC vs Minnesota United Prediction

Both of these teams were involved in wild round of 16 games. Nashville faced Club America in a game that was scoreless for an hour. Walker Zimmerman put Nashville ahead in the 61’ before America equaled in the 78’. America then took the lead with a 94’ minute PK, which looked like the end of the scoring, until Sam Surridge, the Yotes’ new striker from the EFL Championship, equaled in the 99′ minute.

In penalties, America keeper Luis Malagon had looked to have made the winning save. America celebrated and their fans rushed the field. And then VAR reviewed the play and confirmed that Malagon had come off his line. After a lengthy delay, PKs resumed and Nashville prevailed.

Minnesota were in action versus Toluca, and took a 2-0 lead a half hour in. Bongo Hlongwane had one of those goals, and he’s currently tied with Messi for the scoring lead with 7 goals.

Toluca cut the lead to 2-1 in the 66′, Minnesota took a red card in the 73′ and Toluca scored on the ensuing penalty in to tie in the 75’.

That sent this one to PKs as well, where the Loons prevailed 4-2 to advance.

In the Leagues Cup, Nashville beat Colorado 2-1, lost to Toluca 4-3, and drew Cincinnati 1-1 before losing in PKs 5-4 in the group stage.

Across all competitions, Nashville has kept only one clean sheet in their past 18 games. They had been struggling to score entering Leagues Cup being shut out in 4/6 games, but now have eight goals in their four tournament games. Most of those shutouts were on the road though. At home, they’ve scored in 11 of 12.

Minnesota games have also seen goals. In the group stage they had a 4-0 win, 3-2 loss, and 3-3 draw (win in PKs). The Loons have now scored 11 goals in four games, and have 22 goals in their past nine games. Bets on Over 2.5 is 9-1 in their past ten as well.

  • Nashville vs Minnesota Picks: Both teams to score (-163)

LAFC vs Monterrey Prediction

LAFC has only played two games and they’ve both been impressive wins. A 7-1 win over Juarez in the round of 32 and a 4-0 win over RSL in the round of 16. All four goals came in the second half.

Denis Bouanga scored three and Carlos Vela had two versus Juarez. While Vela sat out injured versus RSL, Bouanga scored two more giving him five in the tournament.

Monterrey had a similar result versus RSL in the group stage, winning 3-0, before beating Seattle 4-2, Portland 1-0 and just narrowly beating rivals Tigres 1-0 through a Sergio Canales 97’ minute PK in the round of 16.

They’ll also be missing a star player, as German Berterame (five goals) is out with a fractured ankle.

I’ve liked Monterrey a lot in this tournament. But with 11 goals in two games and playing in Los Angeles at the Rose Bowl, I’m giving the edge to Los Angeles in my LAFC vs Monterrey prediction. A Bouanga goal (+110) or both teams scoring (-175) could also be good wagers. An LAFC win in regulation offers the better value, but you could also take LAFC to advance by any means for some extra insurance if this game makes it to penalties.
