Lincoln CEO hails League of Ireland manager as hunt for new boss goes on

Lincoln City CEO Liam Scully has hailed Drogheda United manager Kevin Doherty after watching the side play last Friday with the English outfit in search of a new boss.

Lincoln recently parted ways with Mark Kennedy and currently sit in ninth place in League One. The club have been no strangers to League of Ireland scouting with Stephen Bradley previously linked to the role and Shelbourne star man Jack Moylan set to join the club in January.

With the likes of Stephen Bradley and Damien Duff's respective futures up in the air, there would be no surprise if Lincoln made an approach for either manager but Scully was full of praise dor Drogheda boss Doherty.

Doherty took over for the 2022 season following Tim Clancy's departure for St Pat's and has done a superb job, comfortably keeping the Louth side in the Premier Division in back-to-back seasons.

Speaking to BBC, Scully said: "I'll say this glibly before the betting odds go crazy. When people are talking about League of Ireland managers, I can't believe Kevin Doherty's not in the mentioning for that because the job that he and the team at Drogheda have done this year with their resources have been phenomenal.

"To be able to see that, they obviously played a huge part in Freddie Draper and Elicha's early season with them. I think there could be a few ruses and a few red herrings there."
