Line Movement for Week 15

The Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans are used to seeing big numbers next to their names, but in the Week 15 NFL line movement, they’ve outdone themselves.

Slated to be facing each other on the Week 15 slate of games, the Chiefs vs Texans game is showing both the biggest point spread and biggest total among all the games.

The Carolina Panthers were on an 0-9 against the spread skid at one point this season. However, they’ve turned that around. Carolina is 6-1 ATS over the past seven games. Playing host to the reeling Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15, there’s been a massive spread move in the line on this game.

Prior to going into analysis of this week’s line movement, let’s look at the up-to-the-minute Week 15 NFL odds.

In Week 15 against the spread picks, home teams are favored in 10 of 14 games. There are no games with a total as high as 50 points. However, four games are listing over/unders that are less than 40 points.

NFL Week 15 Biggest Line Movement

At the beginning of the week, the NFL Week 15 opening odds were showing the Steelers as 1.5-point road favorites over the Panthers. That line didn’t last long.

The NFL public betting trends, 54% of handle and bets in the spread splits are going with Carolina. That’s caused the line to swing dramatically in favor of the Panthers.

Currently, the Panthers are the 3-point home chalk. That 4.5-point shift is the largest spread move of Week 15.

Biggest Total Movement In Week 15 NFL Lines

The NFL betting sites know the Detroit Lions to be a big cover team when it comes to the point spread. This season, the Lions are also big timers when it comes to the total.

In Week 15 of the NFL season, the line movement on Detroit’s total is going in the wrong direction. The over/under on the Lions’ game at the New York Jets began at 48 points. That total has since shortened to 44.5 points, providing the largest total movement of Week 15.

Oddly enough, when the Lions visited MetLife Stadium to face the New York Giants in Week 11, the total was also 44.5 points. Detroit covered the over via a 31-18 triumph.

Chiefs Go Big On The Road

Big digits in the over/under and the Chiefs are fast friends. Eight times this season, the total on Kansas City’s game has been set at 50+ points.

They didn’t get there this week, but at 49 points, the Chiefs vs Texans game is holding forth with the largest total of the Week 15 slate. Kansas City is 3-1 on the over in games this season with a total of less than 50 points.

All 13 of Houston’s games have shown over/unders of less than 50 points. The Texans have gone over on the total just five times this season.

Patriots Get Shorted Again

What the Chiefs are to big total numbers, the New England Patriots are to short point spreads. One point road underdogs at the Las Vegas Raiders, it comes one week following a game at Arizona in which the Patriots were 1.5-point road favorites.

The contest against the Raiders marks the ninth time this season that the spread on a New England game is four points or less. The Patriots are 5-3-1 ATS in those games.

Texans Biggest Underdog For Second Straight Week

Last week, the Texans were getting a season-high 17.5-points from the Dallas Cowboys and they darn near pulled off the biggest upset of the season. Dallas needed a late touchdown to win 27-23.

This week, Houston is a 14-point home underdog to the Chiefs, and that’s again the largest spread of the week. But it’s the fourth time during the NFL season that the Texans are double-digit underdogs. Houston is 3-1 ATS in those games.

Broncos Know All About Going Low

The 3-10 Denver Broncos are the NFL’s lowest-scoring team. They’re averaging 14.9 points per game. By comparison, the 2017 Cleveland Browns, who went 0-16, scored 14.6 ppg.

In last week’s 34-28 loss to the Chiefs, Denver went over the total for just the second time this season, ending an eight-game run of unders.  The Broncos went over for the first time since an October 2 game against the Raiders.

Denver is 2-11 on the total this season. Going back to the 2021 campaign, only five of the last 24 Broncos games have gone over.

Sharing a total of 37 points in the game against the Arizona Cardinals, that’s the lowest total of any NFL Week 15 game. This is the fourth time in eight games that the total assigned to Denver’s game is less than 40 points.
