Monday, January 30th, the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets meet for the second and final time this season. The Lakers won the initial meeting on November 13th (116-103).

Both teams last played on Saturday with the Lakers losing a controversial overtime match 121-125 in Bostons while the Nets beat their cross-city rivals the Knicks 122-115.

Last season, the squads played twice times with the teams splitting the two contests. The Lakers hold the all-time record having bested the Nets in 68 of their 96 matches.

Opening odds either favored the Nets by a single point or had the teams even. If you returned and noticed a dramatic change to the odds there was a simple reason for it — the injury report.

Suddenly, the Lakers have listed both LeBron James and Anthony Davis as out on Monday.

Is this a move by the Lakers to simply rest their stars even though this is only the second of a five-game road trip? Or are these injuries more serious?

The injury report should be welcome news for the Nets who are clinging to their home-court seed while Kevin Durant continues to heal from his MCL sprain.

Kyrie Irving has stepped up his game in the absence of KD but his fatigue level is particularly noticeable in the final frames and clutch time and has to be a concern for Jacques Vaughan who has to manage his minutes.

Plus Ben Simmons is suffering from knee pain that is more troublesome in back-to-back games.

Brooklyn allows 111.7 points ranking sixth and possesses the third-best opponent field goal percentage of 45.4% but ranks 24th on perimeter defense as foes shoot 36.8% from deep.

Brooklyn scores 114.4 points per game ranking 15th. They own the best field goal percentage, shooting 51.0%, and rank second on the perimeter shooting 39.4% from deep.

Ben Simmons (knee soreness) is questionable while T.J. Warren (left shin contusion) is downgraded to doubtful. Kevin Durant remains out with an MCL sprain in his right knee.
