Louisville football bowl projections: Latest odds for Jeff Brohm, UofL

Louisville football (7-1, 4-1 ACC), led by coach Jeff Brohm in his first season at his alma mater, is in the midst of its best season since 2013, when the Cardinals went 12-1 with Charlie Strong as their coach.

With a balanced offensive attack and a defense that gets better every week, the 15th-ranked Cardinals have positioned themselves for a tier-one bowl game.

Here are the betting odds for which bowl game U of L will be invited, according to BetKentucky.com.

Capital One Orange Bowl

Odds: +150

The Cardinals could be the ACC pick for the Orange Bowl, assuming they win the rest of their regular-season games and Florida State makes it to the College Football Playoff.

Typically, the Orange Bowl has ties with the Big Ten and the SEC, but occasionally, bowl organizers choose an ACC team.

Things would get interesting if Louisville makes it to the ACC championship game and defeats its opponent (most likely Florida State). Then the CFP committee would have to seriously consider the Cardinals as one of the top four teams in the country.

Bowl history: In 2007, Louisville defeated Wake Forest, 24-13, in the Orange Bowl, which was part of the Bowl Championship Series that season.

TaxSlayer Gator Bowl

Odds: +200

The TaxSlayer Gator Bowl is another matchup between an ACC team and an SEC or Big Ten team.

Bowl history: In 2017, Louisville played Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl. The Cardinals turned the ball over four times, and Mississippi State turned it over three times.

The Bulldogs had more than 100 yards in penalties, but they won, 31-27.

That was the last game Lamar Jackson played with the Cardinals.

Pop-Tarts Bowl

Odds: +900

The Pop-Tarts Bowl (previously known as the Cheez-It Bowl) features teams from the ACC and the Big 12.

The 2022 Pop-Tarts Bowl was a thriller as Florida State and Oklahoma put on a show.

More than 61,000 attended the Cheez-It Bowl last year. The Seminoles prevailed, 35-32, in Orlando, Florida.

Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis threw for more than 400 yards, and receiver Johnny Wilson had more than 200 yards. The game boasted an audience of 5.4 million viewers, making it last season's second-most-watched bowl game outside of the New Year's Six games.

Bowl history: None

Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl

Odds: +1000

The Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl features the ACC and Pac-12.

This will be interesting because of conference realignment; this may be one of the last bowl games featuring a Pac-12 team.

Bowl history: The only time Louisville played in the Sun Bowl was in 1958, when it defeated Drake, 34-20.
