Luis Oviedo back with Cleveland after being waived by Pittsburgh: Takeaways

Cleveland claimed Luis Oviedo off waivers from Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Luis Oviedo was a member of Cleveland's 2016 international signing class. He spent five seasons with the organization before being selected by the Mets in the 2021 Rule 5 draft. Ovidio was then signed by Pittsburgh and spent the entire 2021 season on the big league roster.

Oviedo's Rule 5 draft rights were purchased by Pittsburgh and he spent the entire 2021 season on the Pirates’ big league roster. Cleveland assigned Oviede to Class AA Akron.

Oviedo is 6-foot-4 and throws in the mid-90s. He has a sinker with breaking pitches and a combination of curveballs and sliders. Cleveland has only three players over 30 on its active roster. Baltimore has five.

The Guardians have the youngest offensive roster and the youngest pitching staff in baseball.

Riche Palacios made his MLB debut on Monday. He is the seventh rookie to debut for Cleveland in the team's first 16 games. Steven Kwan, Bryan Lavastida, Konnor Pilkington, Gabriel Arias, Tanner Tully and Kirk McCarty have also made their debuts for the Cleveland team in 2022. Ernie Clement didn't reach the big leagues until the 62nd game.
