Malibu Moonshine steps out and up in Md. Juvenile Fillies

Malibu Moonshine broke her maiden on a sloppy track by 6 lengths at Pimlico Sept. 9.

Malibu Moonshine was scratched from last month's Maryland Million with a fever. She won a maiden special weight race Sept. 11 at Pimlico Race Course. The chestnut filly got sick and was withdrawn the morning of the race. Angel Cruz will ride her in Saturday's $100,000 Maryland Juvenile Fillies. The race starts at 12:05 p.m. at Laurel Park. It's the 36th running of Juveniles Fillie and 41st edition of $ 100,00 Maryland Junior. Malibu Moon's trainer is Charlton Baker. He won the Barbara Fritchie with Glass Ceiling in February.

Liquidator, a 2-year-old filly, is making her stakes debut in Saturday's $100,000 Maryland Juvenile Fillies. Liquidator has won two of her last three starts. She was off the board in each of the first two races this summer. Her sire, Divining Rod, ran third to Triple Crown champion American Pharoah in the 2015 Preakness (G1). Tais Lyapustina rides her in this race. Liquidators jockey is the granddaughter of three-time Grade 1-winning multi-millionaire Peace Rules.

Barbosa Triples Friday, Rainbow 6, Late Pick 5 Carryovers Saturday. Jockey Sheldon Russell returned to the saddle at Laurel. He will ride in two of nine races on Sunday. There will be carryovers of $12,306.04 in the 20-cent Rainbow6 and $5,270.06 in 50-cents Late pick 5 on Saturday, with tickets with four of six winners in Friday's Rainbow. 6 worth $138.52.
