Man City Premier League relegation verdict as Nottingham Forest learn trial date

Manchester City chances of being relegated from the Premier League have been revealed, amid an investigation in relation to alleged financial rule breaches.

The Premier League announced earlier this year that the seven-tome champions have been under investigation for a potential 115 breaches. There are allegations on a lack of transparency surrounding the accounting and payments towards a former manager as well as possible inflation of figures to bypass financial losses.

The club denies the allegations and are determined to defend themselves. The case has come to the forefront following Everton’s 10-point deduction for a breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability rules.

Everton are appealing the outcome, but if they are again found to be guilty then it will raise questions over the severity of any punishment that may be given to Man City. It’s a situation that Nottingham Forest will be keeping a close eye on.

It seems that is now known when the outcome of the investigation will be found out. The Daily Mail claims that the trial has been scheduled to take place in late Autumn next year, meaning there are still a few more months to wait. It also means that any punishment is likely to come into effect for the 2025/26 season, and therefore not likely to impact the next two campaigns.

Should they be found guilty, then punishments could range from fines to point deductions and even expulsion from the Premier League. With that in mind, here are the latest odds for a few scenarios that could come about.

  • Manchester City start 2025/26 season in the EPL as normal, with no relegation or points deduction at that point - 4/5

  • Manchester City start 2025/26 season in EPL but with points deduction - 2/1

  • Manchester City to start 2025/26 season in Premier League - 1/4

  • Manchester City to start 2025/26 season in Championship - 5/1

  • Manchester City to start 2025/26 season in League One - 20/1

  • Manchester City to start 2025/26 season in League Two - 33/1

  • Manchester City to start 2025/26 season in National League - 50/1
