Manchester City Title Odds Move To 1/2 After Matchday Three

Manchester City are now 1/2 favourites to lift the Premier League trophy for a fourth consecutive season, after the third matchday of the campaign reached its conclusion.

The Tale Of The Weekend

Pep Guardiola was absent from the sideline this weekend as the Manchester City boss recovers from back surgery, but with Juanma Lillo in charge at Brammal Lane the Premier League Champions were able to make it four wins from four.

It took last season’s treble winners a fair while to get into the match against newly promoted Sheffield United, as the visitors bombarded the Blades’ defence for the entire first half with no success.

Erling Haaland proved on Sunday afternoon that maybe he is human after all, as the Norwegian missed a spot kick to put City ahead in the first half, hitting the post from 12 yards to keep the scores level.

It was the 23-year-old who finally opened the scoring for City however, as Haaland rose highest in the box to meet a Jack Grealish cross which he powered into the back of the net to give the Cityzens a lead with half an hour left to play.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for Manchester City at Brammal lane though, as Kyle Walker gave the ball away inside his own box to Jayden Bogle, who smashed a shot past Ederson to bring the home side level with just five minutes left to play.

However City wouldn’t lay down without a fight, as the champions managed to snatch a late winner thanks to a Rodri rocket from close range that tore into the roof of the net from close range.

Can Manchester City Win The Premier League Again?

Elsewhere in the Premier League, last season’s runners up Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw with ten-man Fulham in a shock result that sent City to the top of the Premier League as sole leaders.

Brighton were the only other side to win two matches out of two up until this weekend, but the Seagulls lost to an impressive West Ham side on Saturday afternoon to halt their momentum.

Both Tottenham and Liverpool closed the gap at the top of the table with their wins this weekend, as both sides still remain unbeaten in the season after three matches.

Liverpool impressed with a late turnaround against Newcastle, while Spurs put in a convincing 2-0 display against Bournemouth on the South coast.

If City were to win the league this season it would make it four years in a row that the side have lifted the Prmeier League trophy, and following their treble winning season last year it would be some achievement.

They face Fulham at home next weekend before the international break and will be without Pep Guardiola yet again who is still recovering from surgery, but Juanma Lillo should have no problem against the Cottagers before the break.
