Manchester United vs Brentford Prediction

Manchester United have had a rollercoaster season and will look to avenge their early-season loss against Brentford. The side is tough to call, but our EPL betting picks do believe Antony will find the net at some point.

Revenge will be on the mind of the hosts when Brentford visits Manchester United on Wednesday. The Red Devils were humiliated 4-0 back on Matchday Two, as Brentford scored four goals in a 25 minute span before halftime. Now the reverse fixture comes at a critical point in the season, as Man United are in a fight for a Top 4 spot.

For the visitors, they too are seeking European football next season and will be hoping to once again take points off a Big Six opponent.

Storylines abound in this matchup, and many of them make it a difficult fixture to predict. Thankfully, we have a betting angle that doesn’t require you to do so. Discover what it is in our Manchester United vs. Brentford picks and predictions for Wednesday, April 5.

Manchester United vs Brentford picks and predictions

It’s been an interesting stretch for Manchester United. While the results don’t necessarily reflect the performance of late, the Red Devils haven’t been a consistent side over the past month. They suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat at Anfield, just to bounce back and demolish Real Betis 4-1 a few days later.

They followed that up with a head-scratching scoreless draw with Southampton at home, and then needed an epic implosion by Fulham to steal an FA Cup victory in front of their home supporters. This season has provided more ups-and-downs than a rollercoaster.

Although there has been inconsistency throughout, one constant in the Manchester United attack has been the hunger of Antony, who is always looking to cut inside and let it fly with his left foot. And he doesn’t need to be close to the goal to do so.

He leads Manchester United in shots taken from outside the box, and while many of them end up failing to trouble the keeper, he does find the target.

In fact, in eight of Antony’s last 10 appearances (many being substitute appearances) he’s put a shot on goal from outside the box — with a few even going in. Considering that Brighton attempted 15 shots from outside the 18-yard box this weekend, including nine from the area where Antony roams, it’s hard to fathom that he doesn’t get opportunities to attempt a curler to the back post.

Not every book offers this line, but FanDuel continues to offer it at even money or better. It’s been one of my personal favorites throughout the season, and in a match where so much is in the air for Manchester United, it’s a low-risk bet that continues to pay out at a higher number than it should. That’s why it’s my best bet and an automatic play until the market adjusts.

My best bet: Antony 1+ shot on target from outside the box (+100 at FanDuel)

Manchester United vs Brentford side analysis

The Red Devils haven’t won a Premier League match in nearly six weeks after winning eight of their previous 11. They’ve also been outscored in their last three by a combined 9-0 scoreline. That said, they’ve not lost at Old Trafford in league play since their opening-week defeat to Brighton, and have won nine of 13 in front of home fans.

Casemiro’s suspension will continue with this match, while midfielder Christian Eriksen continues to return from injury and was ruled out from participating by ten Hag at his press conference on Tuesday. Anthony Martial was expected to start on Sunday, but given Wout Weghorst’s performance it’s very likely the start comes against Brentford. Aaron Wan-Bissaka could also return after illness.

Brentford have shared the spoils with their last two opponents, which is fitting given their 13 draws are the most in the league this season. They’ve also lost just once in their last 16 matches, but it’s been a season where Brentford have played to the level of their competition.

They’ve lost this season to Everton and West Ham, while defeating both Manchester clubs and getting draws against Chelsea, Tottenham, and Arsenal. Brentford will be without Vitaly Janelt but will welcome back Shandon Baptiste.

I’m not touching the 3-way line for this match, either pre-match or live. Brentford are a team that, as Brighton showed, can jump out to a lead and lose it repeatedly. They’re also a team that can just annoy their opponents for 90 minutes and steal a result.

Given Manchester United’s current scoring issues, it would be easy to see a Brentford result. However, the Red Devils also have shown they can explode at any time for multiple goals. If you must play a result and want value, then I’d look at Brentford double-chance.

Manchester United vs Brentford Over/Under analysis

The Over 2.5 is already juiced and bet up, and it’s where I’d go for the total as well. Brentford are very adept at hitting on the break, and as they showed against Man United earlier this season they can overrun the Red Devils with Casemiro not there to protect the back line.

Man United’s attack should also be much more dangerous with Martial’s finishing ability and dribbling skill compared to what Weghorst offers.

Manchester United have seen the Over hit in 16 of their 27 matches this season, while Brentford has split their 28 matches evenly. Nine of 13 at Old Trafford have gone Over, while Brentford has again evenly split their 14 away matches. However, the last four meetings between these two teams have featured three or more goals.

Given the juice I’d stay away from the Over unless you can parlay it, perhaps with both teams to score. You may also want to look at the Over 3.0 line in the Asian Handicap, which is plus money at most books.
