At the 37-second mark of the second period of Game 3 against the Florida Panthers, Leafs defenceman Luke Schenn fell and slid into Samsonov, catching the goalie in the upper body area.

Samsonov, who was on his knees making a save, appeared to bear the brunt of the collision with his head and left shoulder.

After remaining on the ice at FLA Live Arena for several seconds, Samsonov departed the game and was replaced by backup goalie Joseph Woll.

The Leafs confirmed Samsonov would not return to the game.

Schenn tripped Panthers forward Carter Verhaeghe on the play and Florida tied the game 1-1 on the power play when Anthony Duclair got in alone and beat Woll with a forehand deke.

Matt Murray is the Leafs’ third goalie in the series. Murray has recovered from a concussion he suffered in a game against the Detroit Red Wings on April 2, but has not played since.

Nearly five minutes after the Duclair goal, defenceman Erik Gustafsson gave the Leafs a 2-1 lead when his pass went off the stick of Panthers defenceman Marc Staal and into the net.

Florida tied the game at 12:28 of the second when a shot by Radko Gudas bounced off Verhaeghe and past Woll.

The teams were tied 2-2 going into the third period.

Florida leads the best-of-seven series 2-0.
