Mariners vs. Athletics prediction and odds for Tuesday, May 2 (Trust Miller, Mariners bullpen)

The Mariners have started out slow after making the postseason in 2022, just 12-16 on the year, but they do travel to face the worst team in baseball in the 6-23 Athletics’ on Tuesday in hopes of getting on track.

Seattle will hand the ball to Bryce Miller in the series opener against the A’s in his Major League Baseball debut. Despite a shaky AA start to the year, Miller comes in with strong minor league stats and will hope to outpace the A’s in his first start in the bigs.

How should we bet Millers first go on the mound and the Mariners offense against a poor Athletics team? Let’s check out the odds and place a bet!

Mariners vs. Athletics odds, run line and total

Mariners vs. Athletics prediction and pick

Miller has been in the minor leagues since 2018, posting a 3.90 ERA across 48 starts and 106 appearances. He faces an A’s lineup that is devoid of a ton of big league talent, hitting just .229 as a unit this season, so I believe that he can get off to a strong start.

Even if Miller does get roughed up, he is backed up by one of the best bullpens in baseball. Seattle’s relievers have the sixth best bullpen ERA as a unit at 3.00, so I give a decisive advantage on the mound to the Mariners.

Seattle’s offense has been stuck in the mud to start the season, last in batting average at .219, but there is no denying they are the far more talented lineup and will be facing a struggling rookie in Mason Miller. Miller, has only been able to get through 8 1/3 innings through two starts and has allowed six earned runs in the process. He hasn’t been able to generate a ton of swings and misses (the Mariners have the second highest strikeout rate in the bigs this season), and this can be a troubling outing for him once again.

Lastly, while the Mariners’ Miller is backed by an elite bullpen, the A’s have one of the worst, a unit that has a 6.83 ERA this season.

Don’t overthink this one, lay it with the Mariners.
