The Fergal O’Brien runner Castle Gandolfo was second in this event last year and looks fair value to go well again. The horse gets in off the same mark as 12 months ago if you take into account the 3lb jockey claim – the pilot (Jack Horgan) who was riding the horse to win two starts ago a Kelso. Prolific winners Gavin for the in-form Peter Bowen yard and Myristica for David Pipe, who have won this race in the past, are interesting too.

It’s hard to get away from the winner of this race for the last two years – Francky Du Berlais. From the Peter Bowen yard that have won this race an incredible 8 times over the years, the horse is now 10 but has warmed up for this with a fair third at the track last month and is rated just a pound higher than last year.
Yes, the big weight (12st) isn’t ideal but he carried this same burden well last year to win and will have one of the best jockeys in the race doing the steering (Sean Bowen).
The Bowen team also run CD winner Courtland with Gavin Sheehan riding and after three wins on the bounce comes here with a live chance for the stable too.
Born Famous is the other of interest after winning his last four. He’s up 5lbs for the latest of those successes which came at Perth last Sunday but in this better race gets in with only 10-3 to carry. Harry Cobden has also been booked to ride.
