Maryland Goes Mobile: Online Sports Wagering Goes Live In Time For Thanksgiving Kickoff

Maryland will become the latest state to offer online sports betting. The launch was formally announced by Gov. Larry Hogan Tuesday morning. Regulators have already granted licenses to ten operators, seven of which went live with operational testing earlier this week. Legal framework allows the state of Maryland to issue up to 60 online licenses with 30 for retail operations. Annual revenue forecast is between $20 million and $40 million. Washington D.C. offered the first online betting marketplace in the region in May of 2020. It was eight months before Virginia accepted its first wagers.
