Meet the 18-year-old jockey who had never ridden a racehorse until 2018
Yudish Geerdharry moved to Ireland from Mauritius at the age of 14. He had never ridden a thoroughbred before. His father has been in Ireland since 2006. Yudishes wants to follow him and become a jockey. He has just started riding for Dick Brabazon on the Curragh. The 18-year-old jockered his first winner under rules. It was his brother Vedish who sent him to work at Dick's. Geersh learned everything about the equipment in French. Now he wants the same success as his father.
Geerdharry has had 15 rides in Ireland and is hoping for more opportunities in 2023. He is training with Johnny Murtagh and hopes to lose the 10lb claim by the end of the year and take his chances at Dundalk in January. On November 6, Geerdarry rode Murthagh's filly Wave Machine to victory in the Birdcatcher at Naas. His brother Vedish is also working for Ballydoyle. The teenager takes three rides at the Dundalks on Wednesday. Geerdarry had never ridden a racehorse until 2018.
