Messier won the Grade 3, $250,000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita on Sunday. It was the fifth prep win for trainer Bob Baffert this year. He is banned from the Kentucky Derby. Cabo Spirit came in second, Wharton third and Sir London fourth. Happy Jack for Doug O'Neill was last in the field of five. The horse Messier was a $470,00 auction purchase for an extensive ownership group. The trainer has earned $285,600. His horses are ineligible from accruing Derby points during his two-year ban.
