Micah Richards delivers surprise prediction on Arsenal and Liverpool's title chances

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has argued that Liverpool are more likely to win this season's Premier League title than Arsenal. The Gunners led the title race for the majority of last term but ultimately fell short, finishing five points behind eventual champions Manchester City.

The start of this campaign has been hugely competitive at the top, with City currently sitting at the summit, one point ahead of the Reds and the Gunners in second and third respectively. Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are hot on their heels too as the Lillywhites are just two points behind the Citizens while Villa are only three off the top.

Now, ex-England international Richards has been asked who he rates higher between Arsenal and Liverpool, opting for the latter due to the star power of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. When asked who thinks has a better chance of winning the title, Richards told The Rest Is Football podcast: “I would say Liverpool.

“Just because Salah and by all accounts Van Dijk had a really good game today (against Brentford).” Newcastle United icon Alan Shearer then chimed in, also hailing Van Dijk's performance against the Bees.

Shearer added: “He did have a good game. He looked back to his best, he read the game very well.

“And they are always going to score goals Liverpool, with the talent they have up top.”
