A run line bet is baseball’s point spread. One team will be favored by -1.5 and have to win by two runs for your wager to cash. If you choose the opposite side (+1.5), your team can lose by one run, and your bet will still win.

Example:

• New York Mets -1.5 (+250)
• New York Yankees +1.5 (-130)

Most sportsbooks will also offer alternate run lines of -2.5 and up. You’ll receive much longer odds for these because of the difficulty in covering the spread.

A total bet is when you pick whether the game's combined score will be over or under the mark set by the sportsbook.

A typical MLB total line will look like this:
