MLB Playoff Teams for 2024: Yes and No Props Predictions

As we progress through MLB’s 2024 Spring Training, it’s only natural we go right ahead with predicting which teams will make the postseason and those who we think will fall a bit short.

There were some surprises last year, including the Florida Marlins somehow making it in and the high-expectation San Diego Padres staying home in October.

This year, the Marlins are expected to regress, and one would think that the Padres may do the same. However, even with San Diego losing some of the best players in the league, they are still one of the most talented ball clubs in the majors.

We were fortunate enough to find some betting odds that are simply yes or no for every team to make or miss the playoffs.

Some teams, like the Los Angeles Dodgers, are projected somewhere around 97% to make the postseason, while the abysmal Athletics have virtually zero chance of making the playoffs. These situations are obviously going to be a pass for bettors.

I have narrowed it down for you guys and decided on some yes or no best bets for MLB teams to make the playoffs.

Chicago Cubs

Yes: -120

No: +100

I am glad I held off on writing this until now, because one of the biggest free agent signings went down about a week ago when the Chicago Cubs re-upped with their star outfielder, Cody Bellinger.

The former Dodger returned to the peak form of his young career in 2023. Was the ever-low-eyed Bellinger focusing only for a short while just to get his big contract? Or is he locked in and ready to play his best baseball at Wrigley Field?

I am leaning towards the latter. This team missed a postseason appearance by only one game. That was behind two teams, the Diamondbacks and the Marlins. It was quite the close race, with other teams we will mention in a moment in the hunt, as well.

I will take Bellinger and the small betting favorite Cubs to make the playoffs.

Toronto Blue Jays

No: +120

The Toronto Blue Jays are a very good team. However, unfortunately for them, they are playing in perhaps the most powerful division in baseball.

This team has superstars, no doubt, including Bo Bichette, Vlad Guerrero Jr., and pitching ace Kevin Gausman. They are top-heavy, however, when it comes to pure talent.

I have their postseason chances at more of a coin flip. I think we have to take the dog odds on Toronto to miss the postseason.

St. Louis Cardinals

Yes: -105

No: -115

I saw where the St. Louis Cardinals are projected to win the NL Central. I get it. They are a class organization if there ever was one. They have an outstanding lineup with Gold Glovers on defense.

However, the heart of this team is aging. And outside of starter Sonny Gray, the Cardinals are supremely lacking effective starting pitching.

I like the near even money we are getting here at just (-115) for the Cardinals to again disappoint.

San Diego Padres

Yes: +215

No: -255

We touched on the Padres a bit already. They were an even bigger disappointment than the Cardinals in 2023. After 162 regular season showdowns, though, they still missed the playoffs by only 2 games.

The front office clearly isn’t afraid to make big moves, so we may see this team get stronger by the trade deadline.

Throw half of a unit on San Diego in this spot, and let's hope Fernando Tatis Jr. has a career year.

Arizona Diamondbacks

No: -130

The defending National League Champions are plus money to make the playoffs in 2024?!

I’m not going to sit here and play stupid. I know they overachieved. This team got stronger in the offseason, though. Their nucleus is very young and still improving.

Led by Corbin Carroll in the field, in the box, and on the basepaths, Arizona, in all likelihood, needs a wild card berth to make it to the postseason, but I believe they can do it.

I have seen some projections giving them more than a 60% chance, and the books are giving us an implied probability of less than 50%. We have to make that play.
