MLB win total odds: Dodgers have historically high preseason over/under total

Vegas oddsmakers are putting the Dodgers in historic territory ahead of the 2024 MLB season.

The Dodgers preseason over/under total is currently sitting at 103.5 wins, which would be the highest since the 1999 Yankees, the eventual World Series champions who were coming off a 114-win season, according to SportsOddsHistory.com.

Los Angeles is also, of course, a massive favorite to win the 2024 World Series.

Oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook have the Dodgers at +320 to win it all this season, which would be the best preseason odds since the 2007 Yankees, who were +300 on Opening Day at BetMGM.

The Dodgers and Braves, whose win total is 100.5 at most major sportsbooks, are the seventh and eighth teams since 1990 with a win total of 100 or more, according to SOH.

It’s the first time since 1996, when the then-Indians and Braves were pegged for exactly 100 wins that two teams have had a triple-digit over/under in the same season.

The Dodgers have been a boon for over bettors during what has been a historically great run over the past several years.

They’ve gone over their win total in five straight seasons — the longest such streak in the majors — winning 100-plus games in five of their last six full seasons.

And they might have this era’s best team on paper after adding reigning American League MVP Shohei Ohtani and Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto this offseason.

The Dodgers’ projected dominance shows up across a number of MLB futures odds boards.

Mookie Betts (+650), Freddie Freeman (+900) and Ohtani (+950) have the second, third- and fourth-best odds to win the National League MVP behind favorite and 2023 winner Ronald Acuna Jr.

Los Angeles also has three pitchers — Yamamoto (+1500), Tyler Glasnow (+1700) and Bobby Miller (+3500) — in the top 15 in NL Cy Young odds.

That’s not including Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler, two ace-level pitchers who will be working their way back from injuries during the early going.
