MLB winter meetings live updates: Trea Turner signing with Phillies

The Dodgers and Angels are among the teams that have made transactions at the MLB winter meetings in San Diego.

Cody Bellinger is a free agent. He was the 2019 National League MVP. The Dodgers decided not to tender him a contract for the 2023 season. Carlos Estévez signed a two-year deal with the Angels worth $13.5 million. Estevez had his best season in 2022 with a 3.47 ERA. He had two saves in that season and has 25 saves and a 4.59 ERA in his career.

Trea Turner is leaving the Dodgers for the Philadelphia Phillies. The team will have to find a replacement for him. Justin Verlander is signing with the New York Mets.  The team re-signed Clayton Kershaw to a one-year, $20-million contract on Monday morning. They lost out in the JustinVerlander sweepstakes. There are several other big names on the free agent market, including Carlos Correa and Xander Bogearts. Gavin Lux could be moved back to short. He played there for Los Angeles from 2011 to 2016. His contract was worth $300 million.

Clayton Kershaw has signed a one-year contract worth $20 million for the 2023 season. It's been three years since Major League Baseball last held its annual convention/rumor mill churner/schmoozefest in person. This year it's held in San Diego.

Jacob deGrom signed a five-year, $185-million contract with the Texas Rangers on Friday. A lot of high-profile free agents remain, including Aaron Judge, Carlos Rodón, Dansby Swanson, Trever Turner, Xander Bogaerts and Carlos Correa. Justin Turner is a free agent for the second time in two years. The Dodgers have already made two significant moves, re-signing Clayton Kershaw and non-tendering Cody Bellinger.
