Mostahdaf and King Of Steel are joint favourites in the £1.2 million Champion Stakes at Royal Ascot today

In what is the feature race of the famed Champions Day meeting at Royal Ascot - the Champion Stakes is one of the most prestigious fixtures on the UK and Irish horse racing calendar every year.

Worth a cool £1.2 million in prizemoney, the Champion Stakes is a one-mile and two-furlong affair that is open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older.

As is the case almost every year, 2023's renewal is shaping up to be a fantastic race. At the time of writing, Mostahdaf and King Of Steel are both 10/3 with Sky Bet to win the Group 1 contest.

Mostahdaf, the Jim Crowley-ridden colt whose best performances have been on quicker ground, has been tipped for success on the inside hurdle track at Ascot.

Roger Varian-trained King Of Steel is the joint-favourite at 10/3 with the American thoroughbred having experienced success at Ascot.

He finished first past the post in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes in June, doing so rather comfortably by more than three lengths. Couple that with the fact that he is scheduled to have Frankie Dettori onboard - and King Of Steel could prove difficult to beat up the straight today.

Horizon Dore is third favourite at 9/2 with the French horse having been in exceptional form since June of this year, winning four on the trot at Longchamp (x3) and Saint-Cloud.

Sky Bet odds for Champions Stakes at Royal Ascot:

Horizon Dore 9/2
