Mountain West expert picks 2022: Projected order of finish, bold predictions, championship favorites

The Mountain West football conference is back for the 2022 season. Utah State won the championship last year. Boise State is the favorite to win the league. Air Force and Fresno State could surprise. The league should have good quarterback play with a number of top passers.

Boise State finished 7-5 in 2021 under first-year coach Andy Avalos. The Broncos are filled with veterans and have a productive quarterback in Hank Bachmeier.

Fresno State is expected to be a contender for the Mountain West championship in 2022. The Bulldogs have an experienced offense and a schedule that sends San Diego State and San Jose State to Fresno.

Jake Haener threw for 4,096 yards and 33 touchdowns last season at Fresno State. Jeff Tedford was the coach at the time Haeners transferred from Washington.

Hank Bachmeier, quarterback for Boise State, was overshadowed in the Mountain West last season. Bach Meier will play a bigger role in his fourth season at the helm in Boise.
