NBPA ‘respectfully disagrees’ with James Harden fine, will file grievance

The National Basketball Players Association doesn’t agree with the league’s decision to fine James Harden $100K and intends to file a grievance.

The Philadelphia 76ers guard received the hefty fine due to his comments calling president of basketball operations Daryl Morey a “liar” and vowing to never play for the 76ers — or any team Morey is part of — ever again.

“We respectfully disagree with the league’s decision to discipline James Harden for recent comments he made, which we believe do not violate the rule against public trade demands,” the NBPA’s statement read. “We intend to file a grievance and have the matter heard by our Arbitrator.”

James and the 76ers are in an ongoing feud after he reportedly was promised to be traded “quickly” once he opted into his $35.6 million option. A trade never came, and Morey made it clear Philly wanted a player who could help the franchise now or draft picks that could turn into a serviceable player.

It’s clear whatever trade offers teams had were no interest to Morey, who said if the 76ers couldn’t find a proper deal they weren’t going to move the guard. So they shut down trade talks altogether.

Despite not wanting to play for the 76ers, ESPN reported that that James plans to attend training camp next month.
