New Zealand Rugby confirms Wellington Sevens for next three years

Wellington has won the right to host the Sevens at a cut cost. Last year's event lost $300,000. The popularity of the event has been on a downward spiral. Christchurch and Hamilton wanted to share the tournament with another city. Auckland was not interested. Dunedin wanted the chance to stage the competition. The council's economic growth committee chairwoman Jo Coughlan said the decision was a vote of confidence in the city's infrastructure. She said it would be delivered in Wellington. It would also be convenient for businesses. There would not be any issues with delivery.
