Newcastle vs Borussia Dortmund prediction, odds, team news and lineups for Champions League clash

Newcastle United will hope for another memorable Champions League night as they prepare to face Borussia Dortmund.

Eddie Howe’s side head into the game fresh off their 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday. Newcastle have produced dominant victories on more than one occasion and transferred that form over to their Champions League campaign against PSG earlier this month.

The Magpies kicked off their European adventure with a 0-0 draw against AC Milan at the San Siro. This was followed by an unforgettable night at St. James’ Park, where goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar helped Newcastle to a spectacular win over PSG that would have surpassed every supporter’s wildest expectations.

The results leave Howe’s team top of what was deemed to be an intimidating Group F after two games. Dortmund will be the next side to travel to St. James’ Park on Wednesday night and currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga, as well as bottom of the Champions League group.

Team news

Newcastle have had a few key injuries to contend with in recent weeks. Sven Botman has not featured since the team’s emphatic 8-0 win over Sheffield United in September, leading captain Jamaal Lascelles to take up the task of helping to marshall Kylian Mbappe in their most recent Champions League outing.

In midfield, Joe Willock has not played since May as he continues his recovery from an Achilles injury, though he is back in first team training. Harvey Barnes is another on the sidelines with a foot injury. The summer signing was taken off in the team’s win over Sheffield United and is not expected to return until late December.

In terms of Dortmund’s squad, full-back Julian Ryerson is expected to miss the game through illness, while striker Youssoufa Moukoko is a doubt after picking up a knock on international duty.
