Next Aberdeen Manager Odds: Three options to replace Jim Goodwin

19 minutes is all it took for Aberdeen to sack Jim Goodwin in the instant aftermath of the club's 6-0 spanking at the hands of Lee Johnson's Hibernian.

Heading into the game, Goodwin was on last chance saloon following the humiliating Scottish Cup exit to part-timers Darvel, but his stay of execution lasted all of five days as his Aberdeen side were torn to shreds at Easter Road. 

The Dons are now searching for their third manager since Derek McInness’ departure two years ago, with bookmaker Bet Victor pricing up the candidates in the next Aberdeen manager odds.

Chris Wilder has the experience, man-management skills, character, and competitive spirit needed to propel Aberdeen out of their current predicament.

He’ll also have the fire roaring in his belly as he bids to bounce back from an indifferent spell at Middlesbrough, which came to an end in October.

After managing, and thriving, at all levels of the English football pyramid the 55-year-old could well fancy a change of scenery north of the border, and can be backed at 4/1 to take the Dons job.

At the time of writing, Wilder definitely looks the stand-out option for the club, should he be interested in the vacancy.

Could Aberdeen turn to a familiar face in Derek Adams?

Adams has a strong affiliation to Aberdeen, where he was born and had a couple of spells as a player. He was linked to the managerial post a year ago following his departure from Bradford when the managerial stars seemed to align perfectly. However, it was not to be as The Dons opted for Jim Goodwin, while Adams returned south to Morecambe who he had previously led to a superb promotion to League One.

Adams kept Morecambe in the third-tier and is currently bidding to do the same this term with the club moving to 19th in the table after a recent spurt of four wins in five games, which includes 5-0 and 5-1 victories.

Adams previously managed in Scotland at Ross County, whom he cannonballed to the Division Two and One titles and a Scottish Cup Final, while he’s since won promotions in England with Plymouth and the aforementioned Morecambe, both from League Two.

Given how open the current next Aberdeen manager market is right now, Adams definitely catches the eye out at 33/1 in the betting. After all, he was the bookmakers' favourite for the job this time last year.

If you’re after a huge price then you can find odds of 66/1 on left-field option Michael Appleton becoming the next Aberdeen manager.

Appleton has amassed over 400 matches so far during his managerial career which has seen him manage in all three divisions in the EFL with the likes of Portsmouth, Blackburn, and Blackpool. Achievements include leading Oxford up to League One and to two cup finals, while he took Lincoln City to within touching distance of the Championship. 

“I’ve got such an open mind going into the next venture I take because I’m happy coaching, I’ve been assistant manager in the Premier League with two clubs over a three-year spell. I’ve done the management,” he said after leaving Blackpool in January.

“But I’ve also done a Masters in Sports Directorship, so I’ve got such an open mind. Whether it’s a coaching role or a managing role, whether it’s going into more of a senior role, I think I’m at that point in my career now as a 47-year-old man who’s happy to take on the next venture.”

Appleton was hotly linked to Hibernian prior to his appointment at Blackpool and could soon pop up on Aberdeen’s radar.
