Next generational NHL prospect compared to Devils star Jack Hughes

ESPN has compiled a list of the next big-time prospects across the five major draft sports. And a projected NHL generational talent has drawn a comparison to Devils star Jack Hughes.

Greg Wyshynski of ESPN names Boston University’s Macklin Celebrini, who is draft eligible in 2024 and expected to be the No. 1 overall pick.

Per Wyshynski:

He’s a similar size (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) -- for now -- as Hughes when the latter went first overall to the New Jersey Devils in 2019. Like Hughes, he possesses elite puck-handling skills and vision on the ice. While his skating isn’t at the Devils star’s level, he can make plays at high speed like Hughes.

Hughes was selected first overall by the Devils in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. In 2021, the 22-year-old signed an eight-year, $64 million contract extension with the Devils. He has 244 career regular-season games under his belt, and this past season set a team record for points with 99.
