Next Leeds United manager odds: Steven Gerrard and Sam Allardyce favourites for Championship stint

Steven Gerrard is the favourite to be the manager at Elland Road come the start of the 2023/24 Championship season.

talkSPORT BET have a list of contenders that are in contention to takeover at Leeds in the second division of English football.

There's a large amount of uncertainty in regards to who Leeds United will be able to appoint with relegation hanging over them.

But the club will always be able to bring in big names as they attempt to get back into the Premier League once again.

But it's the ex-Liverpool and England midfielder and captain that could well be appointed and given a new challenge in the Championship and work his way back into the top-flight.

The 43-year-old managed Rangers between 2018-2021 with varying successes but ultimately it came to an end and he departed for Premier League football with Aston Villa.

However, that didn't last too long and was sacked by the club in October 2022 after being appointed just 11 months prior.

Though it didn't end well, a team any manager can have a significant say over during the summer transfer window and build up has the potential of creating something more successful.

But Sam Allardyce could stay with Leeds having been appointed to try and help them avoid relegation.

He may feel he has unfinished business there and would add an incredible feat to get them promoted.

Allardyce has a long list of managerial experience from 1991 with Limerick, Preston, Blackpool, Notts County, Bolton, Newcastle, Blackburn, West Ham, Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Everton and West Brom.

He's only managed Leeds for four games and has three losses and one draw.

Lee Bowyer made 203 appearances for the Whites between 1996 and 2003 and is a 10/1 shot to return to the club 20 years later.

Marcelo Bielsa will always be well regarded by Leeds fans as he too helped them from being a Championship team knocking on the door to promotion and subsequently an eighth placed finish.

Not many managers will be able to recreate what he did but the owners and fans will hope the manager can come close.
