NFL Scores Record Sports Betting Weekend, And Illegal Attempts

NFL's opening week saw huge wagering numbers in states where it's legal. There was also a major effort by people trying to bet where sports betting is illegal.

GeoComply's Top 10 states by betting volume during the 2022 NFL first games from Thursday through Sunday are New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois, Arizona, Virginia, Indiana, 4.6% Tennessee, and 3.5%. Kansas is 14.1%.

Sports betting is legal in 31 states and Washington D.C., but illegal in California, Texas and Florida. California voters will decide on two sports betting ballot questions on November 8. One question would legalize the statewide use of mobile apps for sports gambling, the other would allow in-person sports wagering at 66 tribal casinos and four horse tracks.
