NHL prop picks Feb. 8: Bet on Hurricanes' Burns, Avalanche's Drouin to shine

Tonight's game between the Colorado Avalanche and Carolina Hurricanes has our prop interests piqued.

The pregame narrative: High-powered offences and poor goaltending collide when the Avs visit the Canes. Exposure to Nathan MacKinnon make both Jonathan Drouin and Ross Colton quality options to register a point. And Brent Burns is a solid choice to find the score sheet for Carolina.

NHL prop picks

Best Bet: Drouin to score 1+ points (-121)

Few places in the NHL are better for point production than playing on MacKinnon's wing.

The man they call "Moose" is second in points (85) this season, fighting with Nikita Kucherov in what's been a two-horse race.

Lineup alterations have been common in Colorado as head coach Jared Bednar tries to find the right mix of players to put alongside MacKinnon.

Drouin, a junior hockey teammate of MacKinnon's, has fit in perfectly.

Their chemistry at even strength and on the power play is a big reason why Drouin is enjoying a resurgence. The winger's 30 points this season are the most he's recorded in a single campaign since 2018-19.

He and the Avs will benefit from Thursday's plus matchup. The Hurricanes struggle to keep the puck out of their net thanks to owning the third-worst team save percentage (.882), according to Natural Stat Trick.

Key stat: Drouin has a point in 12 of his last 17 games.

Quick picks

Colton to score 1+ points (+128): Colton only plays alongside MacKinnon on the power play but that's not such a bad thing.

Colorado's power play ranks ninth in the NHL (24.9%), which puts Colton in an excellent position to register a point.

He's been playing well lately, too totalling six points in his last five games.

Burns to score 1+ points (-115): I'm also looking for a member of the Hurricanes to factor in on the scoring, too.

Burns is having a bit of a down year with 28 points in 49 games, but he has been very good in January. The rearguard has nine points in 12 games across the month with five of those points coming on the man advantage.

The Avalanche struggle to keep the puck out of their net, which should lift Carolina's offence. The Avs place 24th in team save percentage (.893).
