No, this isn’t a preview for the upcoming NCAA men’s basketball season. Duke and Louisville are up-and-coming college football programs set to square off in a highly entertaining game on Saturday at Cardinal Stadium.

Every ACC team is looking up the standings at No. 4 Florida State’s flawless 5-0 record, but with one conference loss each, the Blue Devils and Cardinals have prime opportunities to take on the Seminoles in the ACC Championship. A second conference loss would crush those dreams, making Duke vs. Louisville an unofficial ACC Championship elimination game.

Louisville’s No. 14 spot in the AP Top 25 is its best ranking since 2017, and the Cardinals could’ve been even higher if not for an upset loss to Pittsburgh following a triumphant win over Notre Dame. After a bye week to dwell on the loss, Louisville will be plenty motivated to take down Duke.

The Blue Devils held a fourth-quarter lead on Florida State in Week 8, but after Riley Leonard exited with an injury, the Noles rattled off 21 unanswered points to win 38-20. Leonard is questionable in Week 9, and his absence would be a significant blow for Duke.

Leonard was a game-time decision heading into the Florida State game after missing practice time during the week. Considering the QB re-aggravated the same ankle that he injured against Notre Dame, it’s hard to imagine Leonard will be effective if he can suit up.

With 339 rushing yards and four scores on the ground, Riley’s best when on the move. But with limited mobility, he’ll need to have a strong showing as a passer to keep the Blue Devils in the game.

If Mike Elko is forced to start Henry Belin, the Cardinals can lean on its top-tier rushing defense to keep Duke off the scoreboard. In a start vs. NC State, Belin went 4/12 passing for 107 yards. In relief of Leonard vs. FSU, Belin was 1/6 for seven yards.

The Blue Devils’ defense wasn’t in peak form against the Seminoles but has been dominant throughout the season. Going into the game, Duke surrendered less than 10 points per week and currently ranks 15th against the pass in FBS.

Plummer has put up impressive numbers this year, throwing the second-most yards in the ACC, but his scoring production has been up and down. The Cal transfer tossed multiple touchdowns vs. Georgia Tech and Boston College but tallied just one passing score in the Cardinals’ other five games.
