Notre Dame suffered a season-opening loss in 2022 vs. Ohio State at Ohio Stadium. But these teams are drastically different than a season ago, as Notre Dame’s Tyler Buchner is now with Alabama, and C.J. Stroud is starting for the Houston Texans.

Notre Dame has finally found a prolific passer in Sam Hartman. The Wake Forest transfer leads FBS in passing touchdowns and has the fifth-most passing yards but has yet to toss an interception.

Audric Etime leads FBS in rushing yards and has the fifth-most rushing scores. Pair those players with a Notre Dame defense that allows only 11 points per game, and Ohio State will have its hands full in South Bend.

But the Buckeyes’ defense has been even better, allowing only six points per game, second to Michigan. Ohio State enters this matchup in peak form, following a 63-10 beatdown of Western Kentucky.

Heisman hopeful Marvin Harrison Jr. is off to a phenomenal start with 14 catches, 304 yards, and three touchdowns. The 21-year-old averages an incredible 21.7 yards per catch, making him a constant big-play threat.

Kyle McCord looked good against Youngstown State and Western Kentucky, tossing three touchdowns in each game. But in his lone start vs. a power-five team in Indiana, McCord completed 60% of his throws for 239 yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception.

McCord won’t be able to beat up on a lesser opponent this weekend, causing him to struggle. Notre Dame’s 126 passing yards allowed per game is the fourth-best mark in FBS.

In four games, the Fighting Irish have given up only two touchdowns through the air.

After a down 2022 season, the Fighting Irish faithful will have Notre Dame Stadium rocking on Saturday night. Home-field advantage combined with a Heisman-worthy performance from Hartman will lead Notre Dame to victory, and you can take ND +3.5 for added insurance in case the matchup comes down to the wire.

Past Fighting Irish teams lacked pass-catching playmakers, but this version of the Irish has multiple weapons for defenses to worry about. Chris Tyree leads the way with 216 receiving yards, followed by Jayden Thomas with 188 yards.

In total, the Fighting Irish have five receivers with 100+ yards this season.
