North Carolina Lawmakers Expect To Discuss Online Betting Soon
The University of North Carolina won the men's basketball national championship last season. Mobile sports wagering is not legal in North Carolinians, but that could change in 2023. Legislators are expected to debate the merits of regulated online sports betting again in the state in 2020.
Senate Bill 688, which would have legalized mobile sports betting in North Carolina, failed to pass the House in 2022. Some legislators shared moral objections to sports gambling. Last year, the legislation was voted down. Some wanted college sports to be removed from the bill. This would reduce potential tax revenue.
2023 will be the year North Carolina legalizes mobile sports wagering. Lawmakers are confident entering the legislative session. A sports betting bill has yet to be filed or discussed. New members of the General Assembly could sway the vote in favor of legal mobile betting this year.
