Novak Djokovic may surpass Serena Williams after French Open win

Few would likely refute Serena Williams being called the greatest tennis player of all time. A perennially ranked world No. 1 with an Open record 23 Grand Slam titles and a dominant superstar for the better part of two decades, Williams’ impact on the tennis world is immeasurable.

And now, Novak Djokovic could eclipse her in one key victorious niche — which is no small feat.

Sunday saw Djokovic defeat Casper Rudd in the 2023 French Open. Djokovic’s glorious moment of triumph not only gave him the most-ever Grand Slam titles for a men’s tennis player, it tied Williams’ all-time Open singles mark of 23.

A once-unthinkable record from the tennis GOAT now might be in real danger of being broken in the near future.

Djokovic will have the opportunity to officially surpass Williams in the coming weeks.

This year’s edition of the prestigious Wimbledon is just around the corner during the first two weeks of July. Oddsmakers have not yet centered on tournament favorites, but the 36-year-old Djokovic figures to get the eventual early nod on the Men’s side. He’s the two-time defending Wimbledon champion, and has won tennis’s biggest event an illustrious seven times. Seeing Djokovic as anything but a heavy favorite would be a shock.

Nothing is a guarantee, but Williams’ Open singles title record seems destined to fall and very soon.
