NRFI Prediction 1: Cubs vs Tigers (-111)
The Cubs and Tigers both sit in the bottom half of the MLB in first inning scoring heading into their series opener tonight at Comerica Park.
Alex Faedo takes the mound for Detroit who hasn’t allowed a first inning run in eight of his nine starts on the season with Cubs starter Javier Assad not giving up a first inning run in all four of his starts.
The Tigers have only scored three runs per game in their last three games with the Cubs only scoring on average four runs in each of their last three.
Faedo has only allowed three earned runs in his last 15.2 innings pitched, sporting a sub 1.00 WHIP on the season.
Assad has pitched great in August so far sporting a 2.70 ERA and a 2.14 ERA pitching on the road. Play on a Cubs vs Tigers NRFI at -111 with first pitch set for 6:40pm ET.
NRFI Prediction 2: Giants vs Phillies (-136)
The Phillies have played to a NRFI in four of their past five games heading into their series opener against the Giants tonight with Aaron Nola getting the start for Philadelphia.
Nola hasn’t allowed a first inning run in 18 of 25 starts including four straight with Giants starter Scott Alexander not allowing a first inning run in four of his six starts on the season.
He’ll likely only pitch the first inning in this game serving as the opener for the Giants allowing only two earned runs in 20 at-bats in his career against current Phillies hitters.
There was a span between May and July where he only allowed three earned runs in 20.2 innings pitched, but August hasn’t been as kind to him.
Look for Alexander to bounce back tonight as these two teams sit in the top two spots of the NL Wildcard heading in. Defense should clamp down tonight as we look for a NRFI in tonight’s Giants vs Phillies game starting at 6:40pm ET and odds listed at -136.
