NRL 2022: Joseph Tapine set to sign four-year extension at Canberra Raiders, Ben Hunt contract future

Joseph Tapine is set to sign a four-year extension at Canberra Raiders worth more than $3.4 million. The deal will keep him in Canberra until the end of 2027. He was the player of the year this season and could have earned more on the open market. Seven clubs were interested in signing him but he chose to stay at the club. Nu Brown held talks with the Bulldogs over a potential move. Ben Hunt is also considering a contract extension. It is understood he will sign on Monday. Ben Hunt is off contract at the end of 2023. St George Illawarra is in the box seat to keep him. The Dragons are prepared to pay him around $800,000-a-season for two years. If the Dragons don't budge before the World Cup in England in early October, all interested clubs will be making a pitch. Hunt has already met with Bulldogs general manager of football Phil Gould. Gold Coast is the other club that has been mentioned as showing early interest. He is favourite to win the Dally M Medal next week. His contract runs until the November 1st. It is expected he will hold off on further negotiations until he returns home.
