Odds, Picks & Predictions: Red Sox Vs. Orioles (9/9/22)

Betting Matchup Preview

  • Who: Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles
  • When: Friday, Sept. 9
  • Time: 7:05 p.m. EDT
  • Where: Oriole Park at Camden Yards (Baltimore, Maryland)

Betting Odds Summary

  • Moneyline: Red Sox +108, Orioles -126
  • Runline: Red Sox +1.5 (-194), Orioles -1.5 (+160)
  • Total: Over/Under 8.5 Runs (-118/-104)

The Boston Red Sox are 10 games out of a playoff spot, and now it’s simply a matter of how this team will finish a disappointing season. Will the Red Sox avoid their first losing record in a full 162-game season since 2015? Will Xander Bogaerts win his first batting title, and become the 14th Boston hitter to achieve that feat?

For the Baltimore Orioles, this three-game set against Boston is vital for their chances to snag a wild card spot. The Orioles are 4 ½ games back of the Toronto Blue Jays for the third and final wild card spot in the American League.

Here are some key trends to know heading into tonight’s matchup:

  • Boston is 5-7 against Baltimore this season.
  • The Orioles are tough to beat in Baltimore (40-28 at home).
  • The Total Runs have gone Over in four of Baltimore’s last six games.
  • The Total Runs have gone Under in four of Boston’s last five games.
  • The Red Sox are 2-6 in the last eight games where they were underdogs.

Starting Pitchers

Brayan Bello (1-4, 5.91 ERA, 29 Ks) vs. Austin Voth (4-2, 4.41 ERA, 73 Ks)

This will be Bello’s first time facing the Orioles. He’s coming off the best start of his young career thus far after tossing six shutout innings against the Texas Rangers last Saturday.

Voth is a converted reliever who has been instructed to rely more on his curveball and cut fastball this season by Baltimore’s coaches. The adjustment has proven useful, as the 30-year-old is having one of the best seasons of his career and is starting to improve his stamina. He’s no longer just a 2-3 inning starter, logging at least five innings in six of his last seven outings.

Hot Hitters

Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (+700 to win AL Rookie of the Year on FanDuel) is the real deal. He’s hit .417 with five extra-base hits and seven RBIs in his last seven games.

Rutschman’s not the only Baltimore hitter who’s hot, though. Anthony Santander already has four homers in eight games this month.

On the Boston side, Xander Bogaerts has boosted his average to a league-best .315 after notching multiple hits in 11 of his last 13 games.

Trevor Story has also come alive for the Red Sox, batting .395/.439/.605 in his first 10 games back from the IL.

Our Best Bet Today

See below for why we like Bello’s strikeout market for Friday’s game in Baltimore.

Our Same-Game Parlay

Here’s our daily same-game parlay. Build your own same-game parlay at FanDuel Sportsbook by selecting the game you’re interested in under MLB, and then clicking on the Parlay Builder from the top navigation menu.

  • Adley Rutschman To Record 2+ Total Bases (+125)
  • Brayan Bello 5+ Strikeouts (+190)

We like Bello to baffle Baltimore a bit (say that 10 times fast). The Orioles have never faced him, which should help the 23-year-old rookie continue to average close to a strikeout per inning (he currently has 29 whiffs in 32 frames).

Rutschman is gaining confidence every day and is looking like a great foundational piece for Baltimore. The Orioles haven’t produced a young hitter like him in years.

We’re getting +566 odds on this parlay, which means a $100 bet would return $566 in profit plus your original $100 wager back.
