On-course bookies claim affordability checks will be 'logistically impossible' as part of the UK gambling review. Derek Barnes has worked on course for more than 40 years. He claims they don't have the technology to carry out affordability check. Similar measures are being proposed on track in Northern Ireland. One bookmaker said he feared the betting ring would collapse at its two tracks if a 'trigger' limit of £100 a month was introduced.

Barnes is against affordability checks. He feels that on-course bookmakers are not here to grab every penny. Barnes feels the industry is dying but he wants to keep going. Another representative also has concerns about affordability check. They are unable to carry out the checks as they are physically impossible. It is impossible to regulate on and off- course bookies in the same way.
