Online Sports Betting Officially Goes Live in Delaware

After years of waiting, online sports betting officially went live in Delaware just in time for the New Year. BetRivers has helped launch platforms for three Delaware Casinos: Bally’s Dover, Delaware Park, and Harrington Raceway.

The launch comes after Rush Street Interactive, the parent company of BetRivers, signed a deal with the Delaware State Lottery in August 2023. The agreement allows BetRivers to launch three versions of their sportsbook, one for each Casino.

In addition to sports betting, Rush Street Interactive also took over the state’s online casino industry. They replaced 888 Gaming, which had operated the state’s industry since it was legalized in 2013.

There are no other licensed online casino or sportsbook operators in the state.

Launch Comes After Years of Planning

While online sports betting launched just this week, Delaware was one of the first states to legalize the industry after the US Supreme Court repealed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). While they were able to launch retail sports betting, the online industry took time. The small market made it hard to attract operators, and plans for the rollout took time.

The Lottery initially hoped to have online sports betting available for the NFL season but had to settle for launching just ahead of the playoffs.

BetRivers Continues to Expand

Delaware is now the fourteenth state that BetRivers will be operating a sportsbook. They have been expanding across the US as other sportsbooks have struggled to find market share. While their numbers can’t compete with the likes of FanDuel and DraftKings, it is bringing them closer to the likes of BetMGM and Caesars.

One reason the state selected BetRivers was their presence in neighboring states. That means bettors traveling across state lines can still use their BetRivers account to be on sports.
