Opie Bosson booked to ride in SA Derby

Champion New Zealand jockey Opie Bosson is set to showcase his talents in the upcoming SA Derby at Morphettville.

Bosson is widely recognized for his impressive list of victories in various Group 1 races across Sydney, Melbourne, and his home country.

He will be riding Suizuro in the 2500m race that is scheduled for Saturday next week.

Suizuro, son of Real Impact, gave a good account of himself in the Chairman’s Stakes at Morphettville last Saturday, securing a minor placing behind Red Sun Sensation.

He had also taken third place in the ATC Derby (2400m) in April. Ladbrokes rates Suizuro as the second favorite at $7 in the Derby market, behind Loco at $6.

Trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young confirmed Bosson’s participation in the SA Derby via social media on Monday morning, following Suizuro’s impressive showing over the weekend.

Busuttin and Young will also be saddling up last-start Ballarat winner, Gottabesavvy, in the SA Derby, with Craig Newitt retaining the mount.

Bosson has been in exceptional form this season, claiming five Group 1 wins, including victory aboard Imperatriz in the William Reid Stakes (1200m) at The Valley.

His induction into the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame this week solidifies his position as one of the greatest jockeys in the sport.
