The top three teams in Oregon State history are the 10 or 11-win teams. The 1956, 1964 and 1967 Beavers finished the season ranked among the final national top 10. In 1962, Oregon Beaver was 9-2, had a Heisman Trophy winner, beat two top-20 teams and won its bowl game.

This year's Oregon State team didn't win a championship or a game in which it was an underdog. The Beavers finished the season winning seven of their final eight games. They won over top-10 Oregon.

The Beavers are No. 14 in the College Football Playoff poll, No 16 in coaches and No 17 in AP. The CFP poll is complete, while the coaches' and AP polls will produce final rankings after the bowl season.

Oregon State dominated Florida in the Liberty Bowl. It was the 19th bowl in OSU history. The Beavers beat an SEC team for the first time. They beat Notre Dame in 2001 Fiesta Bowl and Duke in 1942 Rose Bowl, but the other two are more important.

Beavers beat Florida 30-3. Florida's coach Billy Napier kicked a field goal with 37 seconds left to ruin Oregon State's shutout. The game cost Florida a 436-game scoring streak. He should have apologized to Jonathan Smith after the game.

Oregon State's team is in transition. Four of the five starting offensive linemen return. The position most in flux is receiver, as seniors Tre’Shaun Harrison and Tyjon Lindsey leave. There are significant losses in the secondary, especially in secondary. The only certain losses are defensive end Simon Sandberg and linebacker Kyrei Fisher-Morris. Ben Gulbranson started midway through this season and had ups and downs. He was fine in 2022. Gulbanson has the best arm on the team during preseason camp. Oregon State can't afford to take a chance on Chiles. They need to sign a quarterback that is as good as Gulbraanson.

Gulbranson won the Las Vegas Bowl MVP honors. Colletto was a catalyst during OSU’s third-quarter uprising. Fisher-Morris was every bit as impactful as any Beaver. Jaden Robinson made his first start at cornerback with Wright sideline.

Allegiant Stadium is not a good venue for a college game. Western United States bowl games do not attract large crowds. Allegiant had 8-10,000 fans in Las Vegas, and Florida had fewer. Las Vegans have little interest in attending a game that doesn't include of their own.

The future is bullish for Oregon State. The Beavers return a lot of significant performers in 2023. Washington State lost to Fresno State in the LA Bowl. They lost a ton of talent to the transfer portal or NFL draft opt-outs. Their recruiting class is less than meh.
