Oregon and UCLA lost on Saturday. The Pac-12's bowl pecking order is Rose, Alamo, Holiday, Vegas, Sun, LA and ESPN-created bowls. Five teams are ahead of Oregon State in the Pac12 standings. If UCLA, Oregon or Washington are in a bowl mix, the bowls will go with the larger TV market or brand.

The Sun Bowl is Dec. 30 in El Paso against an ACC opponent. The Beavers’ two previous Sunbowl appearances were in 2006 and 2008.

Oregon State's defense is one of the best in the Pac-12 and national. The Beavers held California to 160 yards, the lowest by a conference opponent vs. OSU in 13 years.

Ben Gulbranson was the best quarterback in his five starts for Oregon State. He was 15 of 23 for 137 yards and two touchdowns. His best throw was a third-and-goal pass to Tre’Shaun Harrison. The Beavers won 38-10.

Oregon State beat Cal 38-10 on Saturday. Taliese Fuaga, Heneli Bloomfield, Jam Griffin, Jack Colletto, Jesiah Irish, Jaydon Grant, Alex Austin, Deshaun Fenwick and John McCartan didn't dress for the game. Coach Jonathan Smith hasn't heard if any of them are injured for rest of the season.

Trey Lowe returned to the Oregon State team against California. He hasn't played since the season opener against Boise State. Lowe is a good option as a receiver out of the backfield.

With the season's No. 7 win, Smith has earned an additional contract year. A clause in his contract adds another year if OSU wins at least seven games during the fifth, sixth or seventh year of his tenure. This takes Smith's contract through the 2028 season. His pay for the new year (2028) is $4.75 million.

Brian Lindgren got criticized for play-calling against Washington. OSU showed some high-level stuff with formations and playcalling during the first half.

Colletto and Damien Martinez were about to run a shift on a fourth-and-2 play during the opening drive. Colletti took the snap and threw a 37-yard strike to Anthony Gould. Jam Griffin took over at Wildcat quarterback on the second drive and scored a six-yards on power sweep.

Tristan Gebbia played a little during the fourth quarter. Gbbia suffered a hamstring injury nearly two years ago against Oregon. He fell from starter to third string, but he's a popular teammate and a team captain.

Kyrei Fisher-Morris made his first career interception in the first quarter. Kitan Oladapo tackled him, but the team still scored. The Beavers won 38-10.

Oddsmakers opened as a seven-point favorite for Saturday's game in Tempe. Oregon State is 7-0 when they're favored and 0-3 when underdog. The Beavers are 8-2 against the spread this season.
