Big Apple Brunson

The NBA is all about opportunity... look no further than Jalen Brunson who's moved from the Dallas Mavericks to the New York Knicks.

It was well established that Brunson was a good NBA player, but if not for Luka’s timely injury, it’s hard to imagine the breakout performances that Brunson made against the Utah Jazz in the playoffs last year as well as his subsequent development into the No. 1 offensive option on the Knicks.

For anyone wondering if that series was a fluke, or if the Knicks overpaid for the diminutive guard from Villanova, those debates are finished. Brunson has now proven without a shadow of a doubt that he’s capable of being a go-to scorer on a Top-10 offense, a true closer, and one of the better clutch scorers in the NBA.

Despite bumping up to a career-high usage of 29.5%, he’s now having a more efficient season this year than in his last year in Dallas. A big part of that is a massive jump in free throw rate, from a previous high of 9% to 12.5% this season. That’s despite being in a less offensively friendly environment, as well as being the No. 1 defensive focal point of opposing backcourts.

His herky-jerky style, his post pivots and floaters, and his deceptive play all add up to one of the best offensive guards in basketball. His points per isolation of 1.13 are only fractions of a percentage behind Steph Curry and he’s second in the NBA in total clutch points this season.

And it seems not being selected to the All-Star team has only served to motivate him more, as he’s now on a strong streak of high-scoring games since the snub. He’s hit the Over on his points prop in seven of his last eight games.

Brunson is averaging 29 points over his last 10 games, and 31 per game over his last five. His lines won’t stay this low much longer, so I’m getting in while the value is still there.

Jalen Brunson prop: Over 25.5 points (-108)

Jarrett's jamming

Jarrett Allen is one of the most underappreciated stars in the NBA. Even calling him a star might be controversial to some, but he has the bonafides to back it up. He was selected to the All-Star game last season, and he’s the captain of a Cleveland Cavaliers defense that is tied for best in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks.

For all that though, it would be easy to forget just how valuable he is as an offensive player. Allen is an underrated athlete with a quick first step and the ability to throw down some thunderous dunks. He picks his spots and doesn’t try to do anything he’s not good at, which is why he has an absurd 67.5% true shooting percentage.

The San Antonio Spurs are the perfect matchup for Allen to continue flexing his muscles. They just traded away their only true big rim protector in Jakob Poeltl, and even before losing their man in the middle, they ranked dead last in opponent frequency of attempts at the rim.

The Spurs are young, slight, and should be no match for Jarrett Allen posted up in the paint, rolling to the rim, or grinding on the offensive glass.

Allen has now hit the Over on his points prop in eight straight games, and even against this recently increased line would still have gone Over in his last six straight.

Jarrett Allen prop: Over 16.5 points (-105)

Daring Darius

And for our last player prop bet, we turn to Allen’s teammate Darius Garland. With the integration of Donovan Mitchell this season, Garland has perhaps had to make the biggest adjustment to make the Cleveland offense work. He’s an outstanding point guard and floor general who's had to sacrifice some time on the ball in order to allow Mitchell to do what he does his best.

What made that adjustment not only manageable but highly successful for Cleveland is that Garland is an outstanding perimeter shooter himself. He’s just below 39% from deep for his career, and a lot of that came off the dribble because Cleveland didn’t have many other players capable of handling the ball and setting DG up.

Now, however, Garland is working more off the ball as Mitchell draws the attention of the opposing defense. With that comes more freedom for Garland, as well as more spot-up 3-point attempts, which has seen his accuracy level up even further.

Garland is shooting 41.9% from deep on the season on 6.2 attempts per game, but he’s been way better than even that lately. In the past five games, DG is shooting 60% from deep and has hit an average of 3.6 triples across those five games. Getting plus money to hit three against a Spurs team that ranks among the worst defenses ever is great value.

Darius Garland prop: Over 2.5 made threes (+112)
