Over/unders on Joel Embiid statistics, MVP odds for the 2022-23 NBA season

Joel Embiid's 30-point average last year was an insane fluke. He's the MVP odds for the 2022-23 NBA season.

After the All-Star break, Embiid's scoring average went up to 32.6 points per game. With James Harden and Tyrese Maxey, he got easier shots and forced teams to foul him more.

Joel Embiid is the favorite to win the MVP award for the 2022-23 NBA season. He became the first center since Shaquille O'Neal to lead the league in scoring and the the second since Moses Malone in 1981-82. The Sixers improved their roster and could put away games earlier and get Embid additional rest late in games.

Embiid's rebound average is 11.6, which is slightly below his career average (11.7) and identical to his average from the cursed Al Horford season (10.4). The Sixers bought perimeter defenders this summer to improve their defense. Embiids has some weaknesses as a rebounder, but he's always been good. He should lean over. He can control the glass by himself on both ends of the floor. The three-man combination of P.J. Tucker, Danuel House Jr., and De'Anthony Melton is a strong group to add to the mix on defense, each with different strengths and role flexibility.

DPOY is an award that is usually given to specialists and players whose offensive gifts take a backseat to their defensive skills. Embiid is a terrific defender, but he won't win the award. He's a better defender this year, as a result of the talent around him. He'll struggle to be a leading contender for this award, so he should save the money for other bets.

Joel Embiid is the favorite to win the NBA MVP award. He came close to winning the award each of the last two seasons. Embigid's team has the highest ceiling of any team he has played for. The team is expected to reach 60 wins this season. He is also the only two-way star within the core of their core. His night-to-night competitiveness was improved in Doc Rivers' first season and he made a greater effort to serve as the team's glue. Luka Doncic is a contender for the MVP. Nikola Jokic would be the first player to do so since Larry Bird in the 1980s.
