Panthers vs. Bears Thursday Night Football: predictions, picks, odds

Thursday Night Football marks the start of Week 10 action and the second half of the 2023 NFL season.

The Chicago Bears (2-7) will take on quarterback Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers (1-7) in a matchup between the teams holding two of the three worst records in the NFL.

Notably, the Bears own the Panthers' first-round pick thanks to a trade last offseason that sent Carolina the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, which it used to draft Young. For Chicago, that means either a win or a loss slightly hurt its chances of securing rights to the No. 1 overall pick for a second year in a row.

Bears vs. Panthers predictions

The Arizona Republic: Bears 21, Panthers 20

Jeremy Cluff writes, "These teams are a combined 3-14 on the season. Ouch. Carolina is 0-4 on the road, so we have to give the edge to the home team, although we aren't exactly confident about it."

FOX Sports: Take the under on Thursday Night Football

Will Hill writes, "the way these teams lost is what leads me to the Under in this game... Both of these teams gave away the ball and their chances to win last week, I think we see a "close to the vest" approach and more of a 20-17 type of game this week. Let’s go under!"

Sports Illustrated: Panthers vs. Bears best bet is the Over

Kyle Wood writes, "There have been fewer than 39 points scored in only one Chicago game all season. On the other hand that’s happened four times for the Panthers, but there’s potential for Young to have a bounce back game against a porous pass defense."

VSIN: Give the Bears the points against the Panthers

Zachary Cohen writes, "This is a game that could be tough to watch, but it might be a good one to bet. I think this is a great spot for a Chicago team that I believe is a bit better than its record. So, I’ll happily lay the points against a Panthers team that is 31st in the league in Offensive DVOA.

"Lean: Bears -3.5"

ESPN: Chicago has a 62.3% chance to win at home

According to ESPN analytics and the site's Football Power Index (FPI), the Bears have a sizeable edge over the Panthers. Carolina has a 37.4% chance to win its second game of the season.
