Penguins vs Oilers Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

Connor McDavid may have started slow, but he's now in the Top 3 in the scoring race and is in the midst of a 10-game point streak. With the Penguins on the final leg of a road trip, our NHL picks expect McDavid to pile up the points tonight.

The Edmonton Oilers return home to host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Rogers Place tonight. The Oilers are big home favorites on the NHL odds board after a road win in Seattle on Saturday afternoon.

This will be a quick stop at home for Edmonton before a four-game road trip. Meanwhile, this is the last stop on a four-game road trip for Pittsburgh, who is coming off a loss in Calgary last night.

Which team will pick up two points? Read on for my Penguins vs. Oilers free NHL picks on Sunday, March 3.

Penguins vs Oilers odds

Penguins vs Oilers predictions

The Edmonton Oilers had their fair share of struggles early on in the season but you couldn’t tell that now. They’re 35-20-2 after a 5-12-1 start, with Edmonton going 31-8-1 since November 24.

On the other hand, the Pittsburgh Penguins have been struggling to stay in the playoff race. Saturday night's loss in Calgary hurt a lot with the Penguins allowing three goals in the third period to lose 4-3 in regulation.

One of the main reasons for Edmonton’s resurgence over the past few months is superstar forward Connor McDavid

McDavid is up to 95 points in 56 games and is currently riding a 10-game point streak. He's racked up 24 points in that span and has multiple points in eight of those 10 contests. Going back to January 25, McDavid has 35 points in 15 games with 11 multi-point efforts.

The Penguins are also seeing their superstar, Sidney Crosby, do his best to carry his team. However, Pittsburgh’s supporting cast has either been disappointing or injured.

Crosby leads the team with 63 points (and 32 goals) in 58 games, but Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust are now both injured, and Evgeni Malkin only has 45 points in 58 games — including just four assists in his last 10 contests.

The Oilers are huge favorites tonight, as one would expect, and they should be able to put up a handful of goals against the Penguins. McDavid's point streak should not only continue, but this is a spot where he can pick up another multi-point game.

McDavid has recorded at least two points in nearly half of his games (27 of 56) this season. He's been red hot as of late and should be raring to go at home against a Penguins team that's licking their wounds.

My best bet: Connor McDavid Over 1.5 points (+105 at SIA)

Penguins vs Oilers same-game parlay

Connor McDavid anytime goalscorer

Oilers moneyline

Over 6.5

McDavid hasn’t been scoring as many goals as you’d think this season, but the Oilers' superstar can still find the back of the net. He's primarily been an assist man recently but did score just two games ago against St. Louis.

The Penguins are at the end of a Western Canadian road trip and they'll be happy to get home. After scratching out a 4-3 overtime win in Vancouver on Tuesday night, they've dropped their last two games in Seattle (2-0) and then in Calgary (4-3).

The Oilers have been playing lower-scoring games as of late but things should open up here against the Penguins. Edmonton is generating a league-high 3.24 expected goals per 60 at 5-on-5 in their past 10 games with Pittsburgh allowing 2.63 xGA/60. On the season, Edmonton leads the league with 3.24 xGF/60 while the Pens are in the bottom half with a 2.63 xGA/60.

The Oilers odds opened around -175 but they've moved all the way up to between -190 and -195. In turn, the Penguins odds are up to +160 after opening around +145. The line movement makes sense given how both of these teams performed yesterday.

The total has also moved from a flat six to 6.5 across the board.
