Pennsylvania Derby Attracts 28 Nominations
Nominations are set for the betPARX Pennsylvania Derby. Up to 28 3-year-olds could be nominated for Saturday's renewal at Parx Racing. Zenan Racing Stable's Taiba could make the cross-country trek from Southern California. Taibai broke his maiden by 7 1/2 lengths at Santa Anita Park in March. He finished 12th in the Kentucky Derby May 7 and then finished second to Cyberknife in Haskell Stakes at Monmouth.
Rhetoric will make his stakes debut in the Pennsylvania Derby. Brad Cox nominated four runners for the race. Best Actor is one of four nominees to have a victory over the course. Tawny Port could make a Grade 1 start after his seventh in Kentucky Derby and is nominated. Gold Square's Cyberknife is also nominated for a race at the Pennsylvanian Derby, but he has only won one race so far. He won the Smarty Jones at $300,000 on August 23. The trainer is looking for his first Pennsylvania derby victory. It's worth $1 million.
Interstatedaydream won the 2022 Black-Eyed Susan by 1.1 lengths at Pimlico Race Course on Preakness Weekend. Cox and his team are in search of their first Grade 1 victory at Parx. Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike could make an appearance in the Pennsylvania Derby. West Point Thoroughbreds, Joseph E. Besecker’s B Dawk, Clear Stars Stable, Mitre Box Stables and Richard Schosberg”s Bossmakinbossmoves are also nominated to the race.
