Some people have travelled across the globe to the Lancaster Stakes Ladies' Day at Haydock Park Racecourse.

Hundreds of racegoers walked through the gates at 12.30pm today for day two of the Rose of Lancaster Carnival. Ladies Day also sees the return of the Style Awards which Andrea Briscoe, from Woolton, won.

Andrea won a dental package with The Dental Café worth £3,000, a holiday voucher worth £2,000, a year's supply of Think Prosecco and an outfit of choice from The Buyers Club. People from Liverpool, Wirral and Warrington travelled to the Haydock racecourse, but some came from nearly 4,000 miles away.

ECHO reporter Ryan Paton spoke to some racegoers on why they were there today and their plans.

Mia Perry

Mia Perry, from Woolton, was one of the judges of the Style Awards and was at the racecourse with The Buyers Club Clothing - an official partner of the awards which was founded by radio presenter Leanne Campbell-Power.

She said she was looking forward to seeing all the outfits and noticed pink was the colour of choice - a nod to the current "Barbie-core" trend.

Speaking to the ECHO, she said: "It's nice to see everyone come together and get all dressed up. I love an excuse to get dressed up, so it's fab seeing everyone's outfits being put together."

Sandra O'Keefe

Sandra O'Keefe, from Prenton, travelled with 50 others from the Poulton and Victoria Sports and Social Club.

She told the ECHO the day is one where people can go out and socialise together, Sandra said: "It's a social community, where people come and enjoy themselves and people can get out of their homes who are on their own."

Sandra added: "We're having a fabulous day. Come rain or shine, lose, win - it's a day out. It would take a lot more than the rain to beat us. We're hardcore."

She said her top tips were to "get drunk, be merry and enjoy yourself."

Dan and Joe

Friends Dan and Joe, from Warrington, wore matching "special" Benidorm shirts which they said they were to every race day.

They said they like to come to places like Haydock racecourse as "it's just days like this. Group racing, it's on our doorstep, the crack the banter, love it."

Melissa and Danielle

Melissa, wearing all white, is a bride-to-be and has been planning to come to Haydock Park Racecourse with her friends since 2019.

One of those friends was Danielle, from Canada, who had flown in today to celebrate. Danielle said: "I got here this morning. It's beautiful, except the rain but we now have the sun. We're good."

The friends said they had no tips and were "betting on their favourite numbers".

Nikki

Nikki, from Heyrod, Stalybridge in Greater Manchester, was at Ladies' Day for her friend's 60th birthday with 16 other women.

Speaking to the ECHO on why she was here she said: "I can't wait to have a gamble, have a bet, a win and if not - hopefully there's some talented men around. If you're all watching and listening my name is Nikki and I am on PO box - no only joking.

"It's great, I have never been to a Ladies' Day event, so it is great to dress up and stuff."
